Using infrared 950nm, he captured a phoenix formed from the clouds just seconds before the wind blew it away. The Phoenix theme of this issue embodies bonds, changes, destruction, emancipation and many other things. The contributing artists for this issue all give their take on what the Phoenix means to them. One artist shares her story of how being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the prime of her life caused her to be reborn. Jozi interviews Sandi Holloway who talks about the rebirth she underwent to start the Holloway Youth Project out of the ashes of City at Peace DC. Rebecca Simon, an emerging visual artist, shares her paintings which are metaphors of cultural identity. We also examine the larger community - the animal kingdom - and our place in it. Mr. Bee, the head barber at Frank's Chop Shop, sheds light on why the barbershop plays such a pivotal role in the community and discusses how the Lower East Side has changed over the past decade.
